Advancing

excellence in the Humanities and Social Sciences within the context of a biblical
world view.
Our Vision
To
provide a quality Christian education through the various academic disciplines
of the Humanities and Social Sciences that will prepare graduates for leadership
and service grounded in biblical principles.
The
College of Humanities and Social Sciences provides a wide
range of courses that comprise the majority of the university’s
liberal arts core requirements. Moreover, the College offers
numerous majors in a variety of disciplines which include
Communication and Theatre, Criminal Justice, English, History,
Music, Political Science, Psychology, Religion, Sociology,
Spanish, and Youth Ministry. Minors are offered in most
of the aforementioned areas, as well as in Art, French,
and Christian Leadership. A Master’s degree in Criminal
Justice is also offered. With over 50 full-time faculty
members, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences
is the largest and most diverse college at Charleston Southern
University.
The
highly qualified professors in the College are dedicated
to individualized attention to students, helping them to
acquire the scholarship and develop the reflective judgment
necessary to succeed in a multifaceted and rapidly changing
world. Furthermore, students are afforded the opportunity
to gain valuable insights into themselves and into the
diverse people groups of the world from a distinctively
Christian perspective. Our faculty members view their responsibilities
as ministry, rather than a job or profession; they seek
to prepare students for a calling, not just a career.
Our
Strategic Goals
Continue
to be a thriving academic community where academic
programs are nationally recognized for high levels
of quality and clear integration of faith and discipline.
Establish
unique academic programs that will impact culture and
community for Christ through the various disciplines.
Form
partnerships with organizations and institutions that
will enable our students to apply principles learned
in the classroom to pertinent and practical situations.
Marshall
the necessary resources and establish academic standards
essential to the development of students’ abilities
in the areas of effective writing, verbal communication,
and analytical reasoning.
Restructure
and/or refine departments and disciplines when necessary
to ensure that students can maximize opportunities
to integrate their Christian faith into their chosen
field of study.
Foster
in our students an appreciation of the fine arts and
languages so that they may understand how God’s
world is enriched through diversity and creative expression.
Stay
abreast of the latest technological advances and incorporate
them into our particular disciplines so that our students
may excel in the implementation of cutting-edge skills
in their future professions.
