Professional Organizations:

Here are some sites you might find useful in learning more about what's going on in Psychology:

American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry

The American Association for Marriage & Family Therapy

American Psychological Association is the national organization for professionals in the field of psychology. You might consider joining the Student Affiliate program as an undergraduate. Benefits include reduced rates on journals and free publications as part of your paid membership: Monitor on Psychology, the APA magazine which includes job listings, and the American Psychologist, the APA journal covering issues and trends that affect all of psychology.

The Association for Advancement of Behavioral Therapy is a professional, interdisciplinary organization which is concerned with the application of behavioral and cognitive sciences to understanding human behavior, developing interventions to enhance the human condition, and promoting the appropriate use of these interventions.

National Institute of Mental Health

National Mental Health Association

The Southeastern Psychology Association Conference is the state organization for events and oversight of psychology-related issues. This is the organization which sponsors Academic Day (we attend every October) and a conference in Myrtle Beach in the spring.

The Society for Research in Child Development is just one of many organizations that represent specialized areas within psychology. If you're interested in child development, this international organization may be for you!

Conferences:

The Carolinas Undergraduate Psychology Conference is held in Raleigh, North Carolina. Students at Charleston Southern University whose Experimental Psychology projects resulted in interesting findings are encouraged to submit their abstracts. Forms for submitting abstracts to this conference can be found at the above linked site. Our Psi Chi chapter and The Psychology Club help offset presenters' expenses. Furthermore, presenters practice before the club and gain meaningful experience -- what a GREAT OPPORTUNITY!

The Southeastern Psychology Association Conference (SEPA) is held in various cities through the southeast. Submissions to this conference are requested the summer before presentation. Conferences are held each March. Both faculty and students attend to learn a lot and have also presented papers in the past -- are YOU NEXT?

Please take advantage of the conferences and other possibilities listed above -- Psi Chi can only fulfill its mission of "encouraging and stimulating excellence in scholarship of individual members in all fields, particularly in psychology, and to advance the science of psychology" if YOU THE MEMBERS GET PSYCHED!
