Southern University. The Department of Computer and Information
Science (COINS) oversee the following programs:
Bachelor of Science (BS) Degrees
Computer
Science: This challenging degree emphasizes the skills
necessary to enter the technical job markets of engineering,
manufacturing, aeronautics, space, medical, visual graphics,
etc. Jobs in these areas include programming, design, analysis,
administration of networks and systems. The average salary
range for our graduates in this degree is $60-$80,000.
Bachelor of Technology (BT) Degrees
This
degree is a special program for individuals with approved
Associate Degrees, typically from two-year schools. Such
individuals are allowed to transfer their degrees intact
with not more than sixty-eight hours from sources other than
baccalaureate degree-granting institutions. Because the spectrum
of courses transferred is so diverse, COINS tailors each
student's computer cognate based on the courses brought in,
student goals, employer expectations (if any), course availability,
etc…. Consequently, each BT degree is unique although
most share a similar sublet of cognate courses. The average
salary range for this degree is $33-$43,000.

Computer Science A minor in computer science is offered
by the Institute of Computer and Information Sciences (COINS)

Information Systems A minor in information systems is offered
