GRADUATE STUDIES IN EDUCATION
Welcome to the Graduate Studies in Education website at Charleston Southern University. The primary purpose of the Master of Education programs is to prepare aspiring administrators and educators who are competent, caring and committed to educating an increasingly diverse student body to higher academic standards in P-12 schools.
The School of Education offers three graduate degrees. The Master of Education degree is offered in Elementary Education. The Master of Education degrees in Educational Administration is offered in Elementary School Administration and Supervision and Secondary School Administration and Supervision.
The School of Education Announces
The Fast-Track Master of Education in Elementary Education
Beginning June 2010
- An accelerated program with innovative scheduling of courses to meet the needs of classroom teachers
- Certificate advancement to Bachelor’s Degree plus 18 Hours after Summer II in first year of program
- A 13-month course of study completed through online, weekend, and face-to-face instruction
- A cohort model that supports collaborative learning
- A focus on National Board of Professional Teaching Standards to prepare candidates for National Board certification
- Content courses that build competency in language arts and mathematics
- Accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education

ADMISSION PROCESS
Each applicant for admission, except the non-degree student, must file with Graduate Admissions a complete dossier consisting of the following:
- Submit completed application packet to obtain acceptance status
- Pay an application fee (nonrefundable) that must accompany application.
- Submit supporting documents: hold a baccalaureate degree from an institution approved by a regional accrediting agency and a valid SC Teaching Certificate
- Provide two professional letters of recommendation from principal, vice principal, or department chair.
- Submit scores on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or Miller Analogy Exam (MAT).
- Provide proof of GPA of at least 2.75 for the last two years of undergraduate study, and 3.0 GPA of graduate study (if applicable)
- Submit official transcripts from ALL institutions where undergraduate and/or graduate courses have been taken. (Official transcripts are those mailed from the school or college directly to the Graduate Center)
- Submit a writing sample with provided topic located on the website.
- Complete a disposition belief survey located on the website.
