Buccaneer Hunt Athletic Volunteer Programs

One of the most exciting things about any college or university is their athletic program, and CSU is no exception. As the saying goes, “its not what you know, but who,” and our Buc Hunt was designed to give alumni the opportunity to get involved with their favorite sport and support their alma mater at the same time.

The NCAA has very specific rules when it comes to contacting, having conversations with, or visiting potential student athletes. Recruiting for CSU sports is a never-ending, intensive process and must be performed by a member of the athletic staff. They attend training sessions on recruitment rules and regulations, and follow the strict guidelines set by the NCAA to safeguard against any violations. Any student who participates in athletics and is beyond the eighth grade is considered a potential student athlete.

However, through the Buc Hunt program, we are looking for alumni to volunteer their time in the following ways:

Be a source of information for prospective students should they request someone to call
Students want to hear from alumni and discuss the environment of the campus. What was it like to live in a dorm? How was the campus cafeteria? Were you a student athlete? How did you handle classes and practice? We need alumni would wouldn’t mind talking about their CSU experience to prospective students.

Keep an eye out for talent
Is your son or daughter on a high school athletic team? Do you attend a local high school’s sporting events to support a church youth member? If so, we’re looking for alumni to stay in touch with our Athletic Director or coaching staff and alert us to local talent. You can’t make any direct contact with the student, but you can give the athletic office a call and tell us about your prospective Buc.

Job Assistance
You can employ a student-athlete for part-time or summer work, provided the arrangement falls within the NCAA guidelines.

Host CSU teams in your hometown
Upon approval from the athletic department, volunteer to entertain teams when they travel to an “away event” that’s in or near your home city. It’s a great way to reconnect with current students and give them a feeling of “hometown advantage” when they’re away from campus.

Recruiting talented student athletics is serious business, but these are some of the ways alumni can help directly shape the future of CSU. If you have any questions about the NCAA rules or a particular situation please contact 843-863-7078. If you’d like more information on the Buc Hunt program, please contact the Alumni Office.
