Applied Computing: Computer Science Track

A minor in Applied Computing: Computer Programming Track consists of 18 - 20 hours.

Liberal Arts Core note:

  • Mathematics 111 or higher satisfies the Liberal Arts Core minimum requirement in Mathematics for this minor.
  • Higher mathematics courses may be required as prerequisites for certain courses.
  • Check Course Descriptions for specific requirements.

Minor Studies (15-16 hours)

  • CSCI 215 - Introduction to Information Technology (3 hours) or
  • CSCI 217 - Visual Basic Programming (4 hours)
  • CSCI 235 - Introduction to Computer Science (4 hours)
  • CSCI 332 - Applied Networking (4 hours)
  • CSCI 325 - Java I with Elementary Data Structures (4 hours)

Minor Elective (3-4 hours)

  • 3 - 4 hours of any 300/400 level CSCI course that does not duplicate a course in the major.

Applied Computing: Information Systems Track

A minor in Applied Computing: Information Systems Track consists of 18 - 19 hours.
  • MATH 111/ MATH 110 or higher satisfies the Liberal Arts Core minimum requirement in Mathematics for this minor.
  • Higher mathematics courses may be required as prerequisites for certain courses.
  • Check the Course Descriptions for specific requirements

Minor Studies (18-19 hours)

  • CSCI 215 - Introduction to Information Technology (3 hours), or
  • CSCI 217 - Visual Basic Programming (4 hours)
  • CSCI 235 - Introduction to Computer Science (4 hours)
  • CSCI 419 - Database Management (4 hours)
  • CSCI 495 - Systems Analysis and Software Design (3 hours)
  • one other 300/400 level CSCI course that does not duplicate a course taken in the major (3-4 hours)

Applied Computing: Web Development Track

A minor in Applied Computing: Web Development Track consists of 21-22 hours. Students must take MATH 110 or MATH 111 or higher for this minor.

Core Courses (7-8 hours):

  • CSCI 215 - Introduction to Information Technology (3 hours), or
  • CSCI 217 - Visual Basic Programming (4 hours)
  • CSCI 235 - Introduction to Computer Science (4 hours)

Track Courses (14 hours):

  • ART 216 - Visual Communications (3 hours)
  • ART 221 - Digital Image Editing (3 hours)
  • CSCI 332 - Applied Networking (4 hours)
  • CSCI 334 - User-Interface Programming (4 hours)

Applied Computing: Cybersecurity Track

A minor in Applied Computing: Cybersecurity Track consists of 18 - 19 hours.

Liberal Arts Core note:

  • MATH 110 or higher satisfies the Liberal Arts Core (LAC) for all bachelor degrees minimum requirement in Mathematics for this minor.
  • Higher mathematics courses may be required as prerequisites for certain courses.
  • Check Course Descriptions for specific requirements.

Minor Courses (7-8 hours)

  • CSCI 215 - Introduction to Information Technology (3 hours), or
  • CSCI 217 - Visual Basic Programming (4 hours)
  • CSCI 235 - Introduction to Computer Science (4 hours)

Track Courses:

  • CSCI 332 - Applied Networking (4 hours)
  • CSCI 405 - Introduction to Cybersecurity (3 hours) or
  • CRIM 405 - Introduction to Cybersecurity (3 hours)
  • CSCI 452 - Network Penetration, Testing and Ethical Hacking (4 hours)

NOTE: All students must have at least 125 hours to graduate. Students must meet the Residency Requirements described in this catalog.
