Alumni Giving

Charleston Southern began its journey over 40 years ago with $133,251 in pledges raised during the very first fundraiser, held in 1960 at the Francis Marion Hotel. This year, the alumni office is taking a cue from those early visionaries. We are asking our 12,000-plus alumni to keep the vision alive by remembering the past and supporting the future.

There are multiple ways alumni can help support their alma mater:

Alumni Loyalty Fund and Phonathon

Alumni Association Endowed Scholarships

Giving back to Charleston Southern University means more than just writing a check. Your donation helps ensure that our students receive the best education possible. When considering whether or not to support the University, please don’t break the chain of generosity started more than 40 years ago by people who saw the vision of what Baptist College could become. Your donation of any amount does make a difference, and will impact what happens at Charleston Southern today, and for years to come.

Alumni Loyalty Fund and Phonathon
The Alumni Loyalty Fund is sustained with financial gifts from generous alumni who support the mission of the University. This special fund is part of Charleston Southern’s Annual Fund. Unrestricted gifts made through the Alumni Loyalty Fund are used where it is needed most at Charleston Southern University.

Phonathon is an exciting time during the year when more than 12,000 alumni are called by current students or volunteer alumni between February and April. The funds raised during this campaign are included in the Alumni Loyalty Fund.

When students and alumni call, they have four goals:

1) To verify as much alumni information as possible to strengthen the alumni database – name changes, new addresses, e-mails, etc.
2) To expand the base of support and get as many alumni as possible to participate
3) To ask each alumnus to make a gift.
4) To answer questions from alumni about what’s going on around campus or what changes have happened to an academic program, or favorite faculty member, or coach.

Alumni can to give to the Alumni Loyalty Fund at any time during the year, not just during Phonathon. Don’t wait until Phonathon to make your Alumni Loyalty Gift. Gifts over $1,000 a year may qualify for membership in the President’s Club or Board of Visitors.

Alumni Endowed Scholarships
The Alumni Endowed Scholarship provides financial assistance to upperclassman who demonstrate academic excellence and a need for financial assistance. Gifts to the Alumni Endowment are invested, with a percentage of the income supporting scholarships. The endowment provides a permanent source of income for the University and is a critical part of developing the campus and its programs.
