Janet Elshazly is currently the Visiting Professor of Music at Charleston Southern University where she serves as a vocal accompanist and teaches string techniques. She also serves as Associate Director of Music at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Charleston SC. Janet received her BM from Illinois Wesleyan University, her MM from the University of Illinois (where she held an accompanying assistantship) and her DMA from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, all in piano performance.
Her teaching experience includes three years as a piano instructor and faculty accompanist at the University of Wisconsin in Superior, teaching private piano and strings in the preparatory department at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and many years as a music teacher in the public schools of Illinois, Maryland, Virginia and South Carolina. She has been an accompanist and chamber music performer on many occasions in the Charleston area. For four years she was the rehearsal accompanist for the Charleston Symphony Chorus. Additionally, she has participated in several Piccolo Spoleto concerts and performances of Chamber Music Charleston.
She occasionally serves as recital accompanist for the voice faculty at Charleston Southern University and has performed in several chamber music concerts at the Newberry Opera House. She has been the guest accompanist for the Myriad Singers of Barbados for three concerts in their 2012 South Carolina tour and also served a guest accompanist for the Charleston Men’s Chorus in the Fall of 2013. For several years she has enjoyed giving duo piano concerts with her colleague from Charleston Southern University, Dr. Myungsook Stoudenmire.
