Dr. Peter Beck
Serving in the School of Christian Studies at Charleston Southern University, Dr. Peter Beck teaches in the fields of Historical and Systematic Theology, as well as philosophy and worldviews. Additionally, he served adjunctively for Boyce College (Ky.) and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Entering college as a non-traditional student, Dr. Beck earned his Ph.D. (2007) and M. Div. (2003) in Historical Theology from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary after completing his B.A. at Boyce College, both in Louisville, Kentucky. Prior to college, Dr. Beck spent nine years in advertising and three years as a U.S. Army Ranger.
Dr. Beck is known across campus for his ministry to students in and out of the classroom. The wide variety of experience he brings to the classroom allows him to engage a broad spectrum of students. He is often seen amongst groups of students walking across campus or sitting outside the coffee shop talking about the things that matter most to them. As Dr. Beck says, “I want to pour my life into our students, not just knowledge. To do that, they have to recognize that my life has been transformed by the Gospel, the knowledge I’ve gained, and the life I’ve been blessed to live.”
Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs, Jacquelyn Fish states, “I was absolutely so pleased to announce Dr. Beck to the CSU faculty as the winner of this award. He has the talent of engaging with our students on a personal level and as a professional educator that encourages higher commitments to achieving our goal of ‘academic excellence in a Christian environment.’”
