Charleston Southern University is currently phasing out the existing Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training degree program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Furthermore, the M AT program is awaiting a degree level approval and continuing accreditation from the CAATE, which is scheduled to occur during the 2017-2018 academic year. A student may enroll in the M AT at CSU in the summer of 2017 but must understand that the CAATE re-accreditation will not occur until after their first year in the program.
The mission of the Charleston Southern University Athletic Training Program is to provide an educational setting and opportunities that demonstrate dedication to the preparation of servant leaders that excel in the field of athletic training grounded on an evidence-based approach. The program encourages the academic and personal development of its students to prepare them for a career in which biblical truths and evidence-based practice guide their thoughts and actions as a medical professional.
The National Athletic Trainers Association states that Athletic Trainers are health care professionals who collaborate with physicians. The services provided by ATs comprise prevention, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. Athletic training is recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA) as a health care profession.
The CSU Athletic Training Program is an educational setting that promotes excellence in the field of athletic training within a Christian environment. In doing so, the CSU ATP prepares students to become well-rounded, clinically sound, professional certified athletic trainers. The CSU Athletic Training Program has a rigorous didactic and clinical education program spanning 24 months with a strong emphasis in evidence-based clinical examination and diagnosis of injuries and illness sustained by physically active patients. In addition, the coursework and clinical experiences provide future athletic trainers with the knowledge, skills and abilities to function as an integral member of the health care team.
