The Department of History and Political Science seeks to develop students’ skills in critical thinking, interdisciplinary research, and oral and written communication through historical study and political investigation. These skills are necessary foundations for professional employment, graduate study, and informed participation in the global community.
While introductory surveys of world civilizations and American history are open to all students, the department’s majors and minors have numerous opportunities to explore the fascinating variety of this discipline. Among many other options, the History program offers a wide selection of in-depth courses including studies of ancient Greece and Rome, the Old South, East Asia, the American military experience, and modern Europe.
