Athletic Training Education Program
The National Athletic Trainers’ Association states, “Athletic training is practiced by athletic trainers, health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to optimize activity and participation of patients and clients. Athletic training encompasses the prevention, diagnosis, and intervention of emergency, acute, and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities.”
The goal of the Charleston Southern University Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) is to provide an educational setting that promotes excellence in the field of athletic training within a Christian environment. In doing so, the program prepares students to become well-rounded, clinically sound, entry-level certified athletic trainers.
The program has a rigorous academic and clinical education program spanning three years with a strong emphasis in clinical examination and diagnosis of injuries and illness sustained by physically active patients. In addition, the course work and clinical experiences provide future athletic trainers with the knowledge, skills and abilities to function as an integral member of the health care team.
