Current Charleston Southern University students, faculty, and staff who need books or periodical articles that the CSU library does not own may visit another local library and may be eligible to check materials out of those libraries.

Current Charleston Southern University students, faculty, and staff who visit the libraries at the Citadel, College of Charleston, Medical University of South Carolina, or Trident Technical College may check out books from those libraries with a valid CSU ID card. Students wishing to borrow books from other South Carolina academic libraries may request a statewide borrowing card from the CSU Library Circulation Department.

All current CSU students, regardless of where they live, may apply for a Charleston County Public Library card by showing their student ID card and proof of permanent home address. CSU faculty and staff must live in Charleston County to apply for a Charleston County Public Library card, or they may purchase a Non-Resident Card for a low annual fee. The Otranto Branch of the Charleston County Public Library is less than 2 miles from the CSU campus, located on Otranto Road behind the K-Mart on Rivers Ave.

Berkeley and Dorchester County Libraries, and other public libraries in South Carolina, will only issue library cards to students, faculty, and staff living in those counties.

If you choose not to visit these other local libraries, or the materials are not available locally, CSU students, faculty, and staff may simply request that items be borrowed for them through InterLibrary Loan and the materials will be delivered to CSU's L.
