Academic OneFile How to Cite Electronic Resources Need Help? There are several options for research assistance, including the Ask a Librarian email service and the CSU Chat instant message service Off Campus Access to most of the resources listed on this page is restricted to the currently registered students, faculty, and staff of Charleston Southern University because of licensing and subscription agreements with the database or index providers. Databases and Journals Find journal, magazine, and newspaper articles by searching one or more of the CSU Library's databases and indexes. Some databases include the fulltext of the article, others list only the citation, or the citation plus abstract. Some databases, like Britannica Online or Oxford English Dictionary are electronic resources but do not index journal articles at all. Databases by Title If you know the database you wish to use, select it from the alphabetical title list. Databases by Subject If you need help selecting a database, use the subject list Journals by Title If you already have a journal title or citation, either from an outside source or from a database which does not have the fulltext of the article, use the Journals by Title service to find out whether the CSU Library subscribes to the journal in print, microform, or electronic format. While it does not contain full-text access to materials, some citations are linked to online full-text documents. The database covers materials in all formats and periods, including printed works from as far back as the 15th century. Art Index This citation-only database indexes periodicals published throughout the world on all aspects of art. Coverage includes periodicals, yearbooks, and museum bulletins, as well as periodicals published in English, French, Italian, German, Japanese, Spanish, Dutch, and Swedish. It also indexes reproductions of works of art that appear in indexed periodicals. ATLA Religion Database with ATLASerials Indexes journal articles, book reviews, and collections of essays in all fields of religion and includes full-text from ATLA's online collection of major religion and theology journals. It includes more than 416,000 article citations from more than 1,500 journals (571 currently indexed), more than 210,000 essay citations from over 15,700 multi-author works, and more than 432,000 book review citations. It does not index periodical articles or books of biography about a single individual. Biography Resource Center + The Complete Marquis Who's Who A biographical database containing full-text information on over 335,000 people from around the world, throughout history, covering most subject areas. Book Review Digest Plus Indexes book reviews. All reviews for a book appear together. A single book can have as little as one review citation and as much as a descriptive summary and many reviews with excerpts and full text, depending upon the coverage the book received in the reviewing literature. The database includes children's books as well as book for adults and young adults. Book Review Index Online Plus A comprehensive online guide to book reviews that includes more than five million review citations from thousands of publications, with linking to more than 630,000 full-text reviews. This readers’ advisory resource for fiction and nonfiction provides genre lists, plot summaries, author information, award lists, book jacket images, and book reviews from more than 30 sources. Britannica Online Contains the well-respected Encyclopaedia Britannica with over 73,000 short and book-length articles on every subject. Business and Company Resource Center with PROMT and Newsletters Offers topical business information and company and industry intelligence on thousands of global companies. It provides business, company, and industry content in the following areas: periodical articles, news articles, and press releases; detailed information for domestic and international companies and associations including information on corporate hierarchical structures; company financials and earning estimates; investment reports; corporate chronologies and company histories; brands and product information; industry and company rankings; market share data; industry overviews; and HR law case digests. Business Source Premier (EBSCOHost) Provides full text for more than 8,800 serials, including full text for more than 1,100 peer-reviewed business publications. Business Source Premier contains all disciplines of business, including marketing, management, MIS, POM, accounting, finance and economics. Business Source Premier Enhanced Searching Interface (EBSCOHost) The enhanced interface includes a browse function for industry profile (overview and market value), company profile (Datamonitor report), country report (economic and political background), and market research report (market insight and emerging trends). Each year CHOICE publishes more than 6,500 reviews by subject experts. CINAHL Plus with Full Text A comprehensive source for nursing and allied health journals, providing indexing for over 2,700 journals with full text for more than 620 journals, plus full text for 218 books/monographs, with some full text coverage dating back to 1937. CINAHL Plus with Full Text also includes the Pre-CINAHL dataset, which is intended to provide current awareness of new journal articles, providing basic bibliographic information before they are indexed with CINAHL Headings. As Pre-CINAHL journal articles are indexed, the records are replaced with complete CINAHL records. CJPI/Criminal Justice Periodicals Index A comprehensive database of U.S. and international criminal justice journals. It includes abstract and indexing for over 230 periodical titles, with more than 75 available in full-text. Classical Music Library (in the library, get headphones from the Reference Desk or the AV Media Desk) An online collection of classical music recordings from the past and present. New releases are added continually. Classical Music Library provides multiple recordings of most major works to enable comparative listening, with over 50,000 tracks for listening and searching. You can browse A-Z listings of files in this database by composer, artist, conductor, ensemble, instrument, genre, period, and label. You can also browse the recordings in the following categories: chamber, instrumental, orchestra, opera and operetta, sacred, stage and screen, and vocal and choral. Reference materials supplement these recordings describing the work, track, recording, performers, and composer biographies. Also included are images of composers, concerts sorted by theme, a dictionary of musical terms, and a concise history of music. Columbia Granger's World of Poetry An index to poems published in anthologies. Some of the poems indexed in this database are full text. Contemporary Literary Criticism Select Provides extensive biographical and critical information on more than 600 significant authors. CQ Researcher A journal that contains original, comprehensive reporting and analysis on issues in the news. Controversial topics addressed in a balanced, unbiased manner. CQ Weekly A source for expert coverage of the U.S. Congress: status of bills, votes and amendments, floor and committee activity, and backroom maneuvering. Produced by the largest news team on Capitol Hill, this is the place to go if you're looking for information on topics being debated by Congress in a nonpartisan, unbiased manner. Criminal Justice Abstracts (SAGE/CSA) Contains international journals, books, reports, dissertations and unpublished papers on criminology and related disciplines, some in full-text. It also contains indexes and summaries of international journal articles, books, and governmental and non-governmental reports on a wide range of topics in criminal justice. Criminology: A SAGE Full-Text Collection from Cambridge Scientific Abstracts Includes the full-text of 23 journals covering such subjects as Criminal Justice, Juvenile Delinquency, Juvenile Justice, Corrections, Penology, Policing, Forensic Psychology, and Family and Domestic Violence. It contains over 47,000 articles, 8,300 photos and images, 65,000 dictionary entries, a world atlas, timelines for general, art, and cultural history, and more. Encyclopedia Americana An online encyclopedia published by Scholastic Library Publishing. Encyclopedia of Literature (Merriam-Webster's) This encyclopedia from Merrian-Webster is incuded on a separate tab from within Literature Resource Center and features more than 10,000 descriptive entries on literary figures, works, and terms. Environmental Health Information Service (Not available from off campus. See Reference Librarian for on campus use) ERIC (FREE database from the U.S. Dept. of Education) ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center) provides free access to more than 1.2 million bibliographic records of journal articles and other education-related materials and, if available, includes links to full text. Note that most documents that are not available online can be accessed in the microfiche cabinets. ERIC (EBSCOHost) This subscription service from EBSCOhost provides access to education literature and resources included in the Current Index of Journals in Education and Resources in Education Index. The database contains more than 1,194,000 records and links to more than 100,000 full-text documents from ERIC. Essay and General Literature Index A bibliographic database that cites essays and articles contained in collections of essays and miscellaneous works published in the United States, Great Britain, and Canada. Essay and General Literature Index focuses on the humanities and social sciences, with subject coverage ranging from economics, political science, and history to criticism of literary works, drama, and film. ETS TestLink (Educational Testing Services) FREE Collected from the early 1900s to the present the Test Collection at ETS is a library of more than 25,000 tests and other measurement devices. The journals archived in JSTOR span many disciplines. Liebert Online An authoritative database continaing peer-reviewed journals in the most promising areas of biotechnology, biomedical research/life sciences, clinical medicine and surgery, and law. Literary-Historical Timeline This literary timeline is incuded on a separate tab from within Literature Resource Center and allows you to target a specific date range for literary figures, movements, and historical events. The Literary Timeline Search offers a sociological, cultural, and historical context alongside literary reference. It provides you with a sense of events that took place in an author's life and/or the period in which a work was published, helping to make interdisciplinary connections. Literary Index FREE An index for Gale literature publication materials. This includes Twentieth Century Literary Criticism, Children's Literature Review, Nonfiction Classics for Students, and many more. McGraw-Hill AccessScience A reference materials database for science and its related disciplines. Mental Measurements Yearbook (EBSCOHost) Provides users with a comprehensive guide to over 2,000 contemporary testing instruments. It contains information essential for a complete evaluation of test products within such diverse areas as psychology, education, business, and leadership. Military & Government Collection (EBSCOHost) A database for current news pertaining to all branches of the military and government. It provides cover-to-cover full text for nearly 300 journals and periodicals and indexing and abstracts for nearly 400 titles. MLA Directory of Periodicals (EBSCOHost) Offers detailed information on over 7,100 journals, with 4,400 currently indexed in MLA International Bibliography. Nursing Collection II: Lippincott Premier Nursing Journals (OvidSP) Searchable index to 30 full-text nursing journals. Nursing Resource Center Designed for nursing students, the Nursing Resource Center brings together in an easy-to-use interface disease and drug overviews, care plans, relevant journal results and animated anatomy and physiology diagrams to complement the core encyclopedia texts. The information is written in accessible language for students completing class assignments and preparing for clinicals as they learn how to care for and treat patients. Play Index Includes over 30,000 plays written from Antiquity to the present and published from 1949 to the present. Play Index covers a wide range of plays written in or translated into English, including mysteries, pageants, plays in verse, puppet performances, radio and television plays, and classic drama. Play Index provides the full publication details needed to locate the play in its published manifestations. Primary Search (EBSCOHost) Provides full text for nearly 70 popular magazines for elementary school research. Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection (EBSCOHost) Searches nearly 575 full text publications, including nearly 550 peer-reviewed titles. It covers topics such as emotional and behavioral characteristics, psychiatry & psychology, mental processes, anthropology, and observational and experimental methods. PsycARTICLES (EBSCOHost) Contains full-text, peer-reviewed scholarly and scientific articles in psychology. The database includes more than 45,000 articles from 57 journals - 46 published by the American Psychological Association (APA) and 11 from allied organizations. It includes all journal articles, letters to the editor and errata from each journal. PsycBOOKS (EBSCOHost) A database of more than 16,000 chapters in PDF from over 1,000 books published by APA and other publishers. The database includes most scholarly titles published by APA from copyright years 1953 - present. It also includes 100 out-of-print books and a total of more than 400 classic books of landmark historical impact in psychology. PsycINFO (EBSCOHost) Contains nearly 2.3 million citations and summaries of scholarly journal articles, book chapters, books, and dissertations, all in psychology and related disciplines, dating as far back as the 1800s. 97 percent of the covered material is peer-reviewed. Journal coverage, which spans 1887 to present, includes international material selected from more than 2,100 periodicals in more than 25 languages. PubMed FREE Contains citations from biomedical literature (MEDLINE and OLDMEDLINE) and provides access and links to molecular biology resources. Short Story Index An index to short stories written in or translated into English that have appeared in collections and selected periodicals. SIRS Knowledge Source A comprehensive database portal which is comprised of several distinct reference databases including SIRS Researcher, SIRS Government Reporter, SIRS Renaissance, SIRS WebSelect, SIRS Discoverer, and Discoverer WebFind. SIRS provides relevant, credible, full text information on social issues, science, history, government, the arts and humanities. Small Business Resource Center Search this database to learn how to start, finance or manage your small business. Resources include sample business plans, how to guides, articles and websites. SocINDEX with Full Text (EBSCOHost) A sociological research database that features more than 1,660,000 records with contains full text for 344 "core" coverage journals dating back to 1895, and 129 "priority" coverage journals. This database also includes full text for more than 700 books and monographs, and full text for 6,800 conference papers. Southern Baptist Periodical Index A cumulative index to around 50 periodicals issued each year by historically Southern Baptist Convention-related agencies, institutions, and associations at the national level of organization. State of the Nation (SOTN) contains information on the direction of the U.S. economy through a repository of economic indicators on topics such as employment, wholesale and retail prices, monetary and housing trends, gross domestic product, etc. Global Business Opportunities (GLOBUS) & the National Trade Data Bank (NTDB) contain information on overseas buyers discovered by U.S. officials in the field.
