Students, faculty, and staff at Charleston Southern University have access to an online collection of full text electronic books at NetLibrary, including more than 22,200 titles covering a wide range of topics such as literature, business, history, health/medicine, sociology, religion, science, philosophy, computer science, education, and many more.

The first time you use NetLibrary, you must create an account at NetLibrary by clicking on the New Users link at the top of this CSU Library webpage. If you are off campus, you will first be prompted for your CSU Library Off Campus Access username and password (firstinitial/lastname, student ID#) before you are passed through to the NetLibrary webpage, where you will need to click on Create a Free Account in the upper right corner. When creating a NetLibrary account, you may designate your own user name and password which do not need to be the same as any other username and password you use for the CSU Library databases, Blackboard, or anything else on campus.

Once you have created a NetLibrary account, you may go directly to NetLibrary at www.netlibrary.com from any computer. You do not need to use a computer on campus or any links on the CSU Library webpages. On the NetLibrary home page, login with your NetLibrary username and password.

You may search for ebooks by title, author, keywords, or even by words appearing in the full text of the books themselves. It is also possible to select a particular publisher. If the "include public eBooks" box is checked, your search will also include many public domain titles which come from sources such as Project Gutenberg.

Records for NetLibrary ebooks have also been added to the CSU Library's Online Catalog. During a normal search of the catalog, you may see titles identified as [electronic resource] or EBOOK. These records contain links which will connect you directly to that title in NetLibrary.

Once you display a title record in NetLibrary, click on View this eBook to see an interactive Table of Contents and the full text of the ebook. You will need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to view these ebooks. Each CSU NetLibrary ebook may be used by only one person at a time. There is an inactivity timer which automatically closes the ebook if you have not turned a page or clicked on something within the ebook in the last 15 minutes. As long as you are actively using the ebook, you will have access to it for up to 12 hours.

While reading an ebook, you will have the option to create bookmarks and take online notes. These bookmarks and notes are saved on the server at NetLibrary and will be accessible to you whenever you log in to NetLibrary, from whatever computer you use, and remain until you remove them. When you want to return to the ebook, go to www.netlibrary.com, log in, click on Favorites and Notes, then select your bookmark, and you will be taken to that exact page in the ebook.

Click on the Help tab on any NetLibrary page for more information on using the ebook collection.
