CAMPUS MINISTRIES

We do not believe that our students are the church of tomorrow. We believe that they are the church of today. CSU’s Campus Ministries staff seeks to expose CSU students with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to create a discipleship culture that raises a generation to live for His name. Our mission is for Jesus Christ to be glorified by having lives transformed through discipleship, evangelism and life on mission (immersion).

Campus Ministries focuses on three foundations essential to fulfilling the Great Commission: they are teaching (large and small groups), discipling (apprenticing through a small group) and life on mission (immersion through Engage partners and local, state national and international service projects). To allow students the opportunity to grow more in love with Jesus, we have organized ministries focused on weekly discipleship (D-Groups), weekly worship services on campus (Elevate, which emphasizes the Lordship of Jesus through teaching), spiritual growth conferences and numerous mission projects. Furthermore, our bi-weekly Chapel services are designed to connect all students, faculty and staff with the thoughts and heart of Jesus to raise a generation to live for His Name.

Elevate

Elevating Jesus is our priority in Campus Ministries. Every Thursday night at 8 p.m. in Lightsey Chapel, during the academic year, we offer a worship gathering called Elevate. Elevate is a beautiful time where the Charleston Southern family is unified in worshipping (elevating) our Savior, Jesus. It is a powerful time of student-led worship where all the ministries on campus come together to worship the One we seek to elevate - Jesus Christ.

Discipleship takes place within our D-Groups which meet on campus and off campus each week. Whether in a dorm room, hall lounge or classroom, these small group settings are designed for mentorship and accountability.  Off-campus discipleship happens in apartments or houses where commuters and on-campus residents meet for encouragement and edification.

Life on mission (immersion) happens at various levels. Whether we are partnering with our engage partners or on short-term mission work, we seek to take the gospel of Jesus into a place where the Lord is not known, seen or felt. Redemption is seen and expressed through serving with intentionality to build relationships.

Engage

Engage partners encourage a spirit of service between the Charleston Southern family and the local community. During the academic year, we have a monthly service emphasis and partner with local and national organizations and ministry partners. Other immersion partners include GenSend, International Mission Board and various other organizations such as Cru, Athletes-In-Action, FCA, etc.
