CSU recognizes faculty, student achievements

Charleston Southern University students, faculty and staff were honored at the 52nd annual Academic & Student Life Awards today in the Lightsey Chapel Auditorium. Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Scott Yarbrough, praised the recognized students “… as evidence of their excellent academic career.”

CSU president Dr. Jairy Hunter presented service pins for faculty and staff with more than 10 years of service at the university. A standing ovation accompanied the announcement of Ms. Barbara Mead and her unprecedented 50 years of service.

The Outstanding Faculty Award goes to Dr. Justin McDaniel, an assistant professor of Health Promotion in Charleston Southern’s College of Health Sciences. McDaniel, an Illinois native, joined the CSU faculty in the fall 2016.

Kimberly Ford received the 2017 Outstanding Staff Award. She is a 2010 graduate of the university with a double major in Communication and Theatre. She has served at CSU since 2012.

The CSU women’s basketball team was awarded the school’s Community Service Award.

Charleston Southern’s Women’s Council presented the Mattie Leigh Francese Scholarship Award to Michael Logsdon, Emily Marshall and Hannah Sanders and the Charlene B. Kirk Scholarship was given to Zachary Durkee, Kaitlyn McDevitt, Victoria McManamay, Shakwyla Middleton and Hannah Sanders.

The awards booklet also listed all 288 full-time students who achieved 4.0 grade point averages in the fall of 2016.
