Charleston Southern University mourns the death of Robert “Bob” Edwards of Lancaster, SC, a longtime member of the CSU Board of Trustees, life member of the President’s Club and a faithful member of the Board of Visitors Scholarship Program.
Charleston Southern University President, Dr. Jairy C. Hunter, Jr., said, “Bob Edwards embraced CSU’s mission of promoting academic excellence in a Christian environment in every respect. He served as chairman of the board for many years and led a significant fundraising campaign in the Lancaster area to construct the Hunter Reception and Admissions Center. The Edwards family continues to support student scholarships for worthy students who are pursuing a Christian education. Bob will always be remembered for his faithfulness to the Lord and the positive impact on the lives of everyone around him. He encouraged me to look for the best in everyone and he was a man of his word. The CSU family will surely miss Bob Edwards in the days ahead.”
Having served for 20 years on the Board of Trustees, Edwards was an officer of the board for 10 years and chairman for seven years. He established the Robert H. Edwards Family Endowed Scholarship and contributed to numerous capital building projects including the Hunter Reception Center, Whitfield Stadium Center, Whittington Hall, Brewer Center, Whitfield Center for Christian Leadership and Edwards’ Express snack bar. Edwards received an honorary Doctor of Business in 2001.
Edwards owned Catawba Fish Camp in Ft. Lawn, SC. He, his late wife, Margaret, and the Edwards family have been active in the life of Charleston Southern. Their son, Malcom, is a member of the Board of Visitors, and granddaughter, Kristen Edwards White, graduated from CSU in 2005. Kristen’s husband, Josh, is also an alum (’03).
