Christian Leadership Building opens
Charleston Southern University will formally dedicate its new Christian Leadership Building on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 9:30 a.m., with tours of the building available afterward.
“The Center for Christian Leadership is an amazing resource to support students, faculty and staff for developing effective leaders," said Doug Hunter, executive director of the Center for Christian Leadership, said, "It also allows us to be a resource for marketplace and professional leaders both in Charleston and in the global marketplace movement.”
“I am excited at the enhanced teaching and learning opportunities that await students and others in the community at the new Christian Leadership Building,” said Scott Woods, president & CEO of S.C. Federal Credit Union, chair of CSU's Transform campaign and former chairman of CSU's Board of Trustees. “This building is a marvelous facility and will further elevate the Christian Worldview present on the campus and integrated in its curriculum.”
The Center for Christian Leadership hosts three institutes which contain resources for leaders in business, healthcare, clergy, legal and media fields and more: Biblical Worldview Institute, Faith Integration Institute and Marketplace Institute.
"We envisioned a critical need for a signature building to house our Center for Christian Leadership more than a decade ago,” said Dr. Jairy C. Hunter Jr., president. “The dedication of our new Christian Leadership Building will be a dream come true to the CSU family. This state-of-the-art conference center will be open to everyone around the world who is seeking information and guidance on Christian leadership principles."
Ken Evans, a Christian Leadership Building donor and CSU trustee, added, “The Christian Leadership Building is a strong statement that CSU intends to serve as an advocate for the timeless truths for Christ that our country desperately needs to embrace.”
The 26,500-square-foot facility houses the Center for Christian Leadership, classrooms, conference space, a resource and research center and offices for the School of Christian Studies, the history and political science department, the criminal justice department and the Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
“The Christian Leadership Building provides much needed faculty office spaces and classrooms," said Luke Blackmon, vice president for business. "This signature building will create opportunities to reach out to local, national and international Christian communities.”
In addition, since last summer, Charleston Southern has opened an Athletics Center, a softball press box, added lights to the baseball field, and will dedicate expansions to Derry Patterson Wingo Hall, which houses the College of Nursing and Allied Health, Oct. 11, and the Hunter Reception Center Oct. 29.
