SCBC president speaks at Chapel

by: University Relations

South Carolina Baptist Convention president Brad Atkins will be the guest speaker at Charleston Southern University’s Chapel service on Wednesday, November 7 at 11:00 a.m.

Atkins was elected last November and, at 40, is the second youngest to serve in the role. Shortly after the election, Atkins told the Convention, “Three years ago I was the last guy that I would have ever thought God would put in this position. It is humbling to think that God would allow me to serve in this capacity.”

According to a press release by the South Carolina Baptist Convention, Atkins said God has cultivated in him a love for the convention and has laid a foundation for the leadership role this coming year.

“As a convention, we need to come to the table together and walk hand in hand into the future,” he said. “We’re going into uncharted waters, so we need to listen to where God is leading us.”

Atkins is the senior pastor at First Church Powdersville.

Charleston Southern Chapel is a bi-weekly service held during the fall and spring semesters and is open to faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends of the university.
