Q. Where do I go to talk to someone about my Business Office hold?
A. Students with a Business Office hold will not be permitted to register for classes until cleared by an official of the Business Office. See the attendant at the Cashier’s Window located on the second floor of the Strom Thurmond Building to discuss the details of your statement balance.

Q. A class I need to graduate is full, what can I do?
A. The Department Chair or Dean under which the course is taught must approve overrides. The course instructor does not have authority to approve overrides. If an override is not available, your academic adviser may be able to recommend a course substitution.

Q. My faculty advisor isn’t available to help me; who else can help me register or drop/add classes?
A. To ensure that your course selections keep you on track for graduation, it is the students’ responsibility to seek the advice of faculty advisors on campus during their office hours or by an alternative mode of communication approved by the faculty advisor.

Q. Where can I get tutoring help and how much will it cost?
A. The Learning Center, certified by the College Reading and Learning Association, provides academic support services to all students of CSU—FREE of charge. Trained and certified learning consultants provide services designed to maximize student experience across the curriculum. Scheduled and walk-in appointments are available according to each consultant’s schedule.

Q. Through a parent I am eligible to receive “Chapter 35” benefits? How much of my tuition will that cover?
A. Chapter 35 students receive VA from their parent who was in the military and is either 100% totally and permanently disabled or deceased due to a service connected-disability. VA pays tuition for a Chapter 35 student at a rate that student may be adequate to cover the full cost to attend a state college or university.  The current full-time rate for reimbursement you can expect to receive is $881.00 per month. Additionally, this amount will be pro rated based on number of days per month you are in class. See more information about VA benefits online: Student Success Center/Veterans Affairs.

Q. When I make application to attend CSU, will this automatically start the application process for me to my VA Educational Benefits?
A. No. Your application to use VA Educational Benefits is a separate step. The VA Coordinator will assist you with the processing of filing the required paperwork with the Atlanta VA Regional Office.  The Atlanta VA Regional Office will send you a letter explaining your monthly VA benefit. See more information about VA benefits online: Student Success Center/Veterans Affairs.

Q. Will I have to fill out additional paperwork for VA if I change my major?
A. Yes. The Atlanta VA Regional Office requires that you fill out additional paperwork if you change your major. Changing majors may affect time it takes to complete degree. See the VA Coordinator as soon as you officially declare a new major.

Q. I want to receive the new VA Educational Benefits that were just signed by President Bush. What do I need to do to get these benefits?
A. President Bush signed a new VA Educational Benefits bill in July 2008. According to the VA Central Office in Washington, VA certifying officials will not have approval to begin certifying anyone for the new chapter until August of 2009.  To receive the most current official information please go to www.gibill.va.gov.

Q. I had an “IEP Plan” in high school; how do I receive more information?
A. Contact Dr. Jill Illagan is the Director of Disability Services; her phone number if (843) 863-8010. A guideline for documentation of a disability is available here.

Q. I need my refund check as soon as possible! When can I get it?
A. Refund checks are processed on a weekly basis. We do our best to make sure each student refund check is processed as soon as possible. However, a credit needs to exist on your account by Monday morning for you to get a refund check that Friday. If your credit posts on Tuesday, you will not receive a refund check until the following week. No refunds will be disbursed until a credit exists on your account! Even if you have been approved for a loan, we cannot give you a check until we receive the funds from the loan corporation. Log in to MyCSU and view your account to see if your refund is ready.

Q. Do I have to stand in line at the cashier window to pick up my refund check?
A. No. CSU now offers direct deposit of your refund. Please go to Student Accounts Quicklink on the CSU website and click on “e-Refund and e-Bill Information” at the bottom for full instructions on how to sign up.

Q. When is payment due for my tuition?
A. All payments are due on the first day of class of each term. If you don't know how much you owe, please go to the Charleston Southern University web site to view the current tuition charges for that term.

Q. Can I make monthly payments on my balance?
A. Yes, you can set up a monthly payment plan with Tuition Management Systems (TMS). All payment plans must be set up before the academic year begins. You cannot start a payment plan halfway through the year. Go to www.afford.com to sign up for your payment plan. To calculate the total amount that you will make payments on, add up your total tuition costs for the entire year and subtract any financial aid you will receive during the entire year. The amount remaining is the amount to be paid through TMS. It is your responsibility to make sure that the amount you are budgeting is correct. If your charges or financial aid change, you must adjust your payments through TMS. Remember, you are not setting up payments plans for each semester, you are setting up a payment plan for the entire academic year. If you calculate your budgeted amount incorrectly, you are responsible for paying any remaining balance on the account.

Q. I am receiving financial aid, so why do I have a hold on my account?
A. Financial aid frequently does not cover the total charges for a term. The student is responsible for paying any remaining balance. A hold is placed on any account that is not paid in full.

Q. Where do I go to talk with someone about my Business Office hold?
A. First start with the Cashier’s Window on second floor of the Strom Thurmond Building.

Q. I need to get an official copy of my transcript but I have a remaining balance on my account. Can I get a copy of the transcript now and just pay it back later? Where do I get an official copy of my transcript?
A. No, you must have a zero balance with the school to receive a copy of your transcript. You can get an official copy of your transcript at the Registrar’s Office.
