Dr. Murphy joined the faculty at Charleston Southern University in 2012 and currently serves as an Assistant Professor for the Athletic Training Program in the College of Nursing and Allied Health. He currently teaches courses in both the athletic training and kinesiology majors. His teaching interest areas include emergency care and injury/illness diagnosis. Dr. Murphy’s research interests include assessment of clinical education and how students spend their time in the clinical setting.
He previously served as an assistant professor in the Department of Sport and Movement Science at Salem State University. During his 4 years at SSU, he was instrumental in expanding the Athletic Training Program In addition, Dr. Murphy served as a clinical director and clinical education coordinator of the athletic training education program.
Dr. Murphy has an extensive clinical and teaching extensive spanning more than 14 years. He has provided athletic training health care services in a variety of setting including sports medicine clinics, interscholastic, collegiate, and professional sports.
Dr. Murphy received his doctorate from the University of South Carolina in Physical Education with and emphasis in Developmental Foundations. He has a master’s degree from Clarion University in Rehabilitation Sciences and bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in athletic training from The Pennsylvania State University.
