Athletic Training Program
Welcome to the CSU Athletic Training Program
The National Athletic Trainers’ Association states that “Athletic Trainers (ATs) are health care professionals who collaborate with physicians. The services provided by ATs comprise prevention, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. Athletic training is recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA) as a health care profession.”
The goal of the Charleston Southern University Athletic Training Program (ATP) is to provide an educational setting that promotes excellence in the field of athletic training within a Christian environment. In doing so, the CSU ATP prepares students to become well-rounded, clinically sound, entry-level certified athletic trainers. Based on the life preparation concepts of CSU, the ATP will emphasize values and ethics, communication, leadership, service, and wellness as they relate to the field of athletic training.
The CSU ATP has a rigorous academic and clinical education program spanning three years with a strong emphasis in clinical examination and diagnosis of injuries and illness sustained by physically active patients. In addition, the coursework and clinical experiences provide future athletic trainers with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to function as an integral member of the health care team.
