The Department of History and Political Science seeks to develop students’ skills in critical thinking, interdisciplinary research, and oral and written communication through historical study and political investigation. These skills are necessary foundations for professional employment, graduate study, and informed participation in the global community.
While introductory surveys of political science and American government are open to all students, the department’s majors and minors have numerous opportunities to explore the fascinating variety of this discipline. The political science program offers classes on a plethora of topics both domestic and international, including Constitutional Law, International Conflict, State and Local Government, Western Political Thought and Comparative Democratization.
