HEALTH SCIENCES BUILDING

Essential new space to meet the growing demand for health care professionals

Charleston Southern continues to expand the breadth and depth of our undergraduate and graduate degree programs focused on a growing range of community health care needs.

A key feature of this expansion is the development of a Master of Medical Science (MMS) in Physician Assistant Studies Program. The program will consist of didactic and clinical academic work over the course of 24 months or 6 continuous semesters. Graduates of the program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for physician assistants through the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and will be able to apply for licensure through the Board of Medical Examiners in the state in which they wish to practice medicine.

The mission of the Master of Medical Science in Physician Assistant Studies Program is to educate compassionate and highly motivated individuals through a curriculum integrated with Christian values, to deliver patient-centered care as members of an inter-professional healthcare team, to serve as leaders in their communities, and to continually promote the PA profession.

This program redoubles our need for an entirely new building devoted to health care and the life sciences. With the first class of students expected to begin their graduate studies in January 2018, and continuing strong interest in our other majors, the need for new classroom space, specialized labs and medical training facilities is critical.

The new Health Science Building will answer that need. Designed to leverage the latest medical education technologies, it will provide the facilities essential to prepare the health care professionals our communities will need today and tomorrow. Complimenting the newly expanded College of Nursing, it is designed for additional build-out to meet future needs as well to comprise a true medical training complex on the Charleston Southern campus.

This technology-rich learning environment will include:

  • Traditional lab facilities
  • Simulation labs utilizing the latest 3D “virtual autopsy” tables for PA training
  • Cadaver lab
  • Classrooms and faculty offices
  • Clinical training spaces
